I grew up in North Calcutta, so the narrow by lanes of Kumortuli has a special place in my heart. The lanes where countless sculptors, day and night, carve Godess Durga and other idols out of clay. This is where the gods and goddesses, devils and demons meet rather go on living together. The affinity between the creator and its creation is metaphorical. In Kumortuli human hands shaping clay into Divine forms makes me think of the clay and hands which made us all. Here its hard to differentiate between the human clay and the divine clay.
